dental crown tooth bridgesCrowns and most Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. They are used to replace lost teeth, support remaining teeth and ultimately improve your oral health. Unlike dentures, which can be taken out and cleaned daily, Crowns and Bridges can only be removed by a dentist.

How Dental Crowns Work (“Wear a Crown”)

A crown is a ‘cap’ that’s used to cover a damaged, weakened or a root canal tooth. Besides strengthening and restoring a damaged tooth by providing additional support, a crown can similarly be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape or alignment.

At AXIS Dental Group, we recommend Dental Crowns to:

  • replace large fillings when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
  • protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • restore a fractured tooth
  • attach a Bridge
  • cover a Dental Implant
  • cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
  • cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment.

How Tooth Bridges Work (“Cross a Bridge”)

A Bridge is required if you’re missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth can cause your remaining teeth to shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite and other jaw ailments. This imbalance can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Bridges span the space of the missing teeth and are cemented or anchored to the adjacent natural teeth or dental crowns.

Dr. Terry Papneja and his team at AXIS Dental Group have over 30 years of Dental Crown and Tooth Bridge experience. We also offer the latest in treatment options, including CEREC Crowns, which can be completed in only one day!
