Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the upper and lower third molars. These teeth are at the very back of your mouth. They are the last teeth to surface in the mouth. They are called wisdom teeth because they usually come in when a person is between 17 and 21 years old. Some people have their wisdom teeth for their entire life. Other people choose to have their wisdom teeth removed. Some people have these teeth taken out before they break through the gums.

Why take Wisdom Teeth out?

Most people have them removed for one of these reasons:

  • They’re impacted. Because they’re so far back in your mouth, wisdom teeth may not come in normally.
  • They come in at the wrong angle. They may press against your other teeth.
  • Your mouth isn’t big enough. Your jaw has no room for an extra set of molars.
  • You have cavities or gum disease. You may not be able to reach your wisdom teeth with your toothbrush or dental floss.
  • A partially erupted wisdom tooth may also produce a condition known as pericoronitis, an infection wherein bacteria from food, plaque, and other debris become trapped in between the space of the impacted tooth and the gum.

Wisdom tooth removal usually is effective in preventing

  • Crowding of the back teeth.
  • A wisdom tooth becoming stuck in the jaw (impacted) and never breaking through the gums.
  • Swollen, and painful gums caused by a flap of skin around a wisdom tooth that has only partially come in.
  • Gum disease and tooth decay in the wisdom tooth, or in the teeth and jaw in the area of the wisdom tooth.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Surgery

Once we review your X-rays and discuss the plan, we’ll explain how the procedure works — from anesthesia to healing. If sedation is being used, you’ll need a driver for the day of your appointment.

Most patients recover at home with rest, soft food, and a few days off strenuous activity. We’ll go over all of that in detail, and you’ll leave with printed instructions and access to follow-up care if needed.

“I had a fantastic experience from start to finish at AXIS. I looked online for the office with the best rating for wisdom teeth removal and I’m glad google showed me AXIS. My consultation was smooth, they assessed my teeth and set me up for financing since I don’t currently have coverage which is a huge selling point. On the day of surgery I was admitted very quickly. They talked me through everything and made me feel at ease. Dr. Terry Papneja is a magician. I felt nothing during my procedure even while I was fully awake. The hygienists and front desk staff are all extremely welcoming and helpful. I most recently had my post-op checkup and was told I am healing well. So glad I chose AXIS for my procedure. I highly recommend them!

EDIT: Just wanted to update my review, it’s been a little over a year since my procedure and I have zero problems. My mouth healed perfectly and all the pain I had for years is gone!”

Genuinely the best dental clinic I have ever visited. I got my Wisdom teeth extracted by Dr.Papneja and I would highly recommend this clinic for anyone who is looking to do dental procedures.

I personally was very scared and found this dental clinic after reading positive reviews about it but the reviews were an understatement of how smoothly everything went. From being welcomed by all staff throughout my consultation to post surgery I felt more than comfortable in their hands. Not only that the procedure was done before I even knew it and they made sure I had everything I needed as well. Highly recommend this clinic they really will not disappoint.

I had a bridge done at another dental office. I had weeks of issues. In the end they could not relieve me of my pain, decided to do a root canal and hit a nerve when they froze me. I decided to part ways with this place and sought out a new dentist. I was recommended to go to AXIS Dental in Brampton by a good friend that I trusted. I was nervous, in pain and super frustrated when I arrived on their doorstep. They were so professional. They did everything they could to fix my bridge and managed to relieve the pain and fix the absess I got from the previous dentist. They sent me to a specialist to help me with the nerve damage I got from the other dentist and then proceeded to treat me with amazing cleanings and follow ups. I am so happy with AXIS dental that I felt the need to express it here. If your looking for a good dentist, this place is full of them. I am super happy!

How to Know When it’s Time to Act

Wisdom teeth don’t always cause problems. But when they do, it can happen quickly — with swelling, discomfort, or damage to nearby teeth. You may need your wisdom teeth removed if:

  • They’re impacted (growing sideways or trapped)
  • You’re feeling pressure in the back of your jaw
  • Food keeps getting stuck around them
  • There’s swelling, soreness, or infection
  • Your dentist has flagged them in a scan or exam

If you’re unsure, we’ll take a quick look and give you an honest recommendation. In many cases, removing them earlier makes recovery easier.
